TXT002Japanese Temple Phoenix Textile
A fabulous phoenix, a symbol of immortality, embroidered with gold and silk stread on light pink silk fablic. Double lined with white cotton fablic and gauze.
It was placed over the main alter table of a temple in Japan, where incense burners and flower vases are set in front of a buddha.
There are a few small burn marks and holes which caused by incense, but not through the cotton lining.
Late Edo to Meiji period. (19th Century)
