Touhou was born in Showa 2 to one of Bizen's 6 noted families, 'Toushou-en'.

Bizen is one of the '6 Old Kilns' of Japanese yakimono-pottery. There is not one Bizen that is identical to another. Pine logs are used for the kama-kiln-in which the yakimono are cooked for 10 to 2weeks. They are each one-of-a-kind, as colors and patterns will differ depending on where they were placed inside the kama. No glaze is used for a Bizen, and its earthy, natural and coincidental characteristic (wabi-sabi) is highly appreciated throughout Japan.

Shogo Yamaguchi is the grandson of the late Jotetsu Yamaguchi who was registered as recipient of Japan's Traditional Craftsmanship Reservation Society (TCRS) in Showa 23. Shogo studied under Jotetsu and his father-also named Jotetsu-and has succeeded the family tradition in Oribe-yaki.
