Shigaraki Pottery:
is thought to have begun in Kamakura period (1192-1333). In Muromachi and Momoyama period (1330's- 1600's), tea masters favored these natural Shigaraki wares as one of Japan's most loved ceramic styles.

In the process of making Shigaraki wares, noborigama (the distinctive climbing kilns) and anagama (a simplified climbing kiln) are used. a "natural glaze" is produced when the ash from the wood with which the kiln is fired melts.
