An impressive masterpiece screen with samurai-like composition and dynamic brush stroke.
The large Hawk in the center is about to seize the Monkey at right corner.
The Hawk is painted with bold and strong brush stroke, on the other hand the Monkey is depicted with very thin sensitive lines.
Circa Late Edo (1615-1868) period.
Completely restored and remounted.

Dynamic large 6-panel screen of fully bloomed Cherry tree and Japanese birds around the blossoms. Speckled gold depicts thick morning dew of the spring.
The signature reads Hokkyo Senkei. It is a work of Sasaki Senkei (unknown - 1848.) He was born in Kaga (current Ishikawa prefecture), studied painting under Tsurusawa Tansaku and Tansen in Kyoto. After that, he went back to Kaga, to become an in-house painter for The Maeda Family, the feudal lord of Kaga; and was given the name "Hokkyo Senkei" from the lord.

Beautiful Antique Kutani kiln hand made Maneki Neko. Signed by artist at the bottom.
The Maneki Neko (literally "beckoning cat") is one of the most common lucky charms in Japan. Found frequently in shop windows, the Maneki Neko sits with its paw raised and bent, as if beckoning customers to enter.
Unlike those mass produced Maneki-neko, this is a one of a kind cat by Kutani kiln artist. The face is made more realistically and it is wearing the Kutani design apron with gold.

It is in Excellent condition.
